An Impactite is rock created or modified by one or more impacts of a meteorite. Impactites are considered metamorphic rock, because their source materials were modified by the heat and pressure of the impact. On Earth, impactites are made primarily of modified terrestrial material, sometimes with pieces of the original meteorite.
A meteorite believed to be 10 to 16 kilometres in diameter hurtles from space striking the area now known as Sudbury, Ontario. An impact crater 250 kilometres wide is created, which forms the second biggest known crater on our planet.
Anthraxolite is a carbonaceous mineral of unknown origin from the Onwatin Formation. Found in 1850, the 150 mile wide crater was formed 3 million years ago by a huge meteorite. The Sudbury, Ontario, Canada creator is very famous.
